Miles to Marvel Part 7
For about two minutes she just looked at me, I wondered what she was thinking. There had been too much silence between us. Then finally she spoke ‘I had no idea we had so much in common’ she said. She sounded sad, obviously, not everyday you try to kill yourself. I was bewildered but more than that, I felt that we shared some kind of bond. I wanted to ask her why, but before I could, she spoke
‘It was two years ago, almost close to the time when we first met’.
Suddenly all the memories of that day flooded my mind. Best friend’s birthday, lots of friends, we met for the first time. After a few drinks we had started to open up.
‘So what do you do?’ I had asked her.
‘Cry, a lot!’ she had replied with a half smile.
‘Why should you?’ there was too much music in the background.
‘Life isn’t the way it should be’ she replied.
‘You know what, we should change that’ I said. I was cooler back then, much more carefree and chilled out. And then we left the party to explore the city, just me and not so known girl, who I in just one night showed my best spots in the city. We had enjoyed, we laughed and ended up on the roof of my building. She had left before I could wake up, the night had become hazy the day after. But now, two years after that incident, we stand together living our past. I could see tears surfacing her face. ‘What was it?’ I asked, breaking the silence between us. At first I thought she wasn’t going to say anything. Then she started ‘I was perfect you know, amazing student, role-model like image, scholar and recognized everywhere. I had always won, the word “fail” didn’t seem to exist anywhere. Then in just seven days, I experienced the worst days of my life’.
I couldn’t really see myself sympathising with her. Nobody has a perfect life, the “perfect” Sunaina deserved to fall. All of us need to fall! I thought ‘But how does that make you take your life?’
I could see her eyes widen, as if I’d just asked her kidney. I was expecting lots of overreaction and drama.
But instead she just said ‘I know I’d been such a fool’. Somehow I suspected she was hiding something, there had to be more to it. She asked me about my suicide attempt, I narrated her the entire episode. She was listening intently throughout, in the end she said ‘So basically if I hadn’t called, you’d be dead?’
‘Yes’ I said with a sigh ‘Guess I haven’t been a less fool either’
‘Such idiots we are’ she commented.
Yes, we were idiots to give up so soon, we had so much to do, at least I had so much to do. After that we headed back to the city. Sunaina made sure to visit one of the church. I know no idea what she asked God. ‘A “perfect” life’. This also made me realise that people can lose everything anytime. Fact to be kept in mind always!

The party apparently organized by the resort’s owner looked like a grand affair, the resort was all decked up with lighting and music. ‘Cool isn’t it!’ Su said
She was wearing the dress she had earlier bought. And just for the record, she did look stunning. I could see many guys checking her out, which was quite irritating. ‘I think you should have settled for a slightly longer dress’. Sunaina smirked and said ’Stop acting like my brother, enjoy!’
She left me stranded and went on to party with the crowd. I made myself comfortable near the drinks counter ‘One piña colada’ I heard one of the guest ordering. Turns out that wasn’t any guest but the hostess, Riana Braganza. ‘C’mon Rishi! You can do it’ I could hear myself shouting within. ‘Anything Sir?’ the bartender asked ‘A shot for me’
Going, going and she was gone.
‘You won’t get her you know’ I heard someone say
‘Excuse me?’ I asked
‘Riana is hard to get, she doesn’t date people like you’ said the girl, she sounded drunk and was wearing a shorter dress than Sunaina.
‘What do you mean people like me?’
She started to give me the evil ‘You are such a loser’ type look.
‘You know girls like you disgust me’ I said to her, not knowing how she will react.
‘And boys like you interest me’ she replied
I was beginning to feel unsafe with this girl, her intentions didn’t sound so good. She came towards me, she was close, very close, too close. She grabbed my hair and pulled it toward her
‘What do you like?’ she said in a very creepy tone. I closed my eyes, sense of panic, fear or more, and then BOOM! The creepy girl fell on the floor, someone had pulled her and punched her. That someone was none other than Sunaina, ‘Back off bitch’ I heard her say, soon the whole crowd was watching us. That girl got up and charged for Sunaina, within minutes there was catfight going in front of us. Su pulled the girl’s hair, and she bit her on her arm, it was all crazy. Suddenly the girl grabbed a whiskey bottle and threw it towards Su, she lowered down. Soon, the bouncers and the hostess, Riana arrived. ‘Stop it Sara!’ Riana shouted, she tried to grab hold of the creepy girl named Sara. Su backed off and came towards me. ‘I am so sorry’ Riana apologised. She asked one of the bouncers to take Sara to her room .I took care of Su who was not in her senses. ‘I am so sorry for my sister’s behaviour’ Riana cried. ‘Sister!’ I thought. ‘It’s okay, I will just take her back’ I said and shouldered Sunaina. Riana supported Su from the other side. Sunaina slept as soon as we put her on the bed.
‘I am so sorry for everything, my sister goes crazy with alcohol!’ Riana said with genuine sadness.
‘Well who doesn’t' she gave me a faint smile ' Plus I am sorry from my friend, she becomes ferocious too’
Riana smiled ‘You don’t need to, to compensate we could give you another night to stay, all on the house’
‘No, it’s alright we are actually on a road trip’
'Please..hmm?'
'Rishi'
'Yes, please Rishi, that's the least I can do'
I had to think, Su really wanted to stay a day extra and it was coming for free, so why not just take it. Plus Riana was talking to him!
‘Yeah well I see no harm’
‘Perfect!’
And Riana left with a big smile.
