Met By Chance Part 5
Myra had never been this confused in life. After coming back
from Chandigarh, she could hardly think about anything else except for that six
month deal. Tara was shocked to hear Myra’s dad’s terms. But she told Myra to
remain calm which obviously she couldn’t.
Even at office she wasn’t the same. Myra was not focusing at
all; the prim and proper Myra Arora had become a complete mess. After the sad
day at office, the evening was tiresome. She ate and went off to sleep. The
next day was better; she could finally focus and looked almost normal.
Shashrek had not heard from Myra in the past last week. He
knew that she was in Chandigarh. He messaged her but she didn’t reply back to
any of his messages. He tried to call but the phone was switched off. Myra
always made sure to reply messages, it was her habit. He called once again;
Myra picked it up at last
‘Hello?’
‘Myra? Hey, how are you? Are you back?’
‘Hi Shashrek, yes I came on Sunday. Listen, I need to talk
to you. Can you come by my place today?’
‘Why? What happened?’
‘I will tell you, if you are free…’
‘Yeah, I will be there. Take care, Bye’
‘Bye’
Shashrek knew that Myra was talking about something serious.
She hardly spoke so low and lifeless. It was so unlike her. With time they had
become good friends and Shashrek didn’t have many friends
Earlier in school he was one the most social guy in school.
Cool dude attitude and die hard looks made him irresistible but with time that
personality had changed. Now, he was a boring banker with not much of a social
life. Writing was his passion but due to tight work schedules he could hardly
make time for it.
Later that day, Shashrek made it to Myra’s place.
‘So? You said you wanted to talk about something?’Shashrek
said.
Myra had no idea of what she was going to say. All the time
she wondered if he said No! But she had to ask. ‘C’mon Myra, just say it!’ said
her mind.
‘Shashrek, the thing is that my father…’
And she narrated him the whole story. He heard all of it
very patiently and didn’t utter a single word throughout.
‘But he can’t force you into a marriage. Can he?’ Shashrek
said
‘I don’t know! Maybe he can, I am confused and if he starts
blackmailing me then I will be helpless’
‘But it’s your life, he can’t decide such things for you,
you have the right to choose who you want to be with’
‘I know Shashrek and I thought about it a lot and I think
maybe he is right. I do want to settle but this six month deal has sort of
added pressure and I know my father, after six months he will be expecting an
answer from me’
‘And who is this guy that
you have been meeting for the past three months? Have you talked to him about
it?’
‘Actually I meant you from that guy’ Myra said (embarrassed).
‘What? Myra we never had that kind of relationship. I mean
you are my friend, c’mon I never took you that way’
‘I know I know, but I had to say something and trust me, at
that time I was dealing with lot many things’
‘So you will lie’
Shashrek said sternly
‘I didn’t completely lie’ murmured Myra
‘What?’
‘Look Shashrek, you are a great guy and if there is any
chance that we can work this out together as like good friends… I mean I don’t want
to force you but just for six months, I mean if it doesn’t works out between
you and me then I will probably just go ahead with my dad’s idea of an arranged
marriage’
‘So this is it all about, you called me here for this shitty
idea?’
‘Yes’
‘Myra you are crazy’ Shashrek said, definitely pissed.
‘Means you will not even think about it?’
‘There is nothing to think, Myra I am not your toy! I am not
going to be used and thrown away’
‘Who is using you? I was just asking, you are acting as if I
forced you into this’
‘No but I am sure that was your plan’
‘No it wasn’t. I never expected such a reaction from you, if
I had known I wouldn’t have dared to ask’
‘Ask what Myra? Love is not a joke and in six months? You can fool yourself but
not me and I don’t want to be a part of this joke’
‘You know what forget it, just forget it!’
‘Yeah, God Myra I had never known that you could be this
stupid’
Now, Myra had enough of it, she definitely didn’t expect
such a remark. Shashrek was reacting way too rationally.
‘SHASHREK GUPTA! Just leave’ Myra ordered
‘With great pleasure Myra Arora’ mocked Shashrek
And then Shashrek left. Myra was pissed and so was he. The two
didn’t talk or message each other in the following week and the week after.
Tara concluded that Shashrek didn’t like the way Myra had presented the proposal.
‘How else was I supposed to do it? Give him a diamond ring or
some new Apple gadget!’ Myra said
‘No, but his reaction obviously tells that he is confused
about you and then good couples always fight’ Tara justified
‘We were never a couple! Now I have to think of something
else’
‘Or you could simply ask Shashrek again but this time in a
better and more lucrative manner’
‘Bad idea, he didn’t have the decency to call’
‘Did you?’
‘No but…Usne khana bhi nahi khaya,I had to give it to the
maid!’(He didn’t even eat the food)
Tara didn’t say anything. She started to smile which Myra
found extremely irritating.
What was bothering Shashrek? Was it his previous
relationship with Saina? (Part 4) Yes, it was her. After hearing Myra that day,
Shashrek felt as if she was like another Saina in his life. And this time he didn’t
want to suffer, but after leaving her house that day, he regretted his
reactions, he liked Myra as a friend and he might have just lost her. Myra had not
called him either. Since then, there was not a single day when Shashrek didn’t think
of calling her but he lacked the courage to do so.
‘I did hurt her really bad and she didn’t even know about
Saina. Maybe I misunderstood her’ he concluded.
Finally it was after
two weeks and three days after their fight, the two of them decided to meet. All
thanks to Tara, the godly sister decided to sort things out in her own way.
‘Just listen to what he has to say, let him do the talking
and you better shut up!’ she requested/ ordered Myra.
