Book Worms Delight : Jaya

Mythology, one can seriously love it to no extent. Indian mythology seems intriguing as it is the perfect blend of love, sorrow & power. There are so many aspects that one could talk about them endlessly. My latest pick was Jaya by Devdutt Pattanaik. It is an illustrated retelling of the Hindu epic Mahabharata. This book makes you wonder about spiritual aspects like dharma and adharma. How often do we think about them? And how many of us believe in dharma?
The book starts with Vyasa narrating the story to Janamejeya, great grandson of Arjuna. It introduces the members of the Kuru clan. Later it revolves around the princes of Hastinapuri, the legendary Pandavas and Kuaravas. People have known and heard about Mahabharata all their lives but there is always more to the story. Why did the Mahabharata happen? Was it just a family feud or more than that? The answer lies in the book.
My favourite character, the clever Krishna had been a delight in the book. Without his help the Pandavas didn’t stand a chance against the Kauravas in the War of Kurukshetra. Why? Well that’s for you guys to know.
Happy Reading!

  1. I know lot of stories though, through the TV serials we used to watch during childhood, Mahabharat, Ramayan and others... but at this time it is this books which helps you understand the Artha (meaning), which those stories try to convey... interestingly written by the author. People can go to youtube and check the Series - Business Sutra to get a glimpse of the knowledge this author has of our mythology.
