Venom : Part 2

'Any custom goods to declare ma'am?'
Her green eyes met with the flight attendant's. She took the form and thanked her. For a person travelling First Class from Russia, clearing customs could be a nasty job. As soon as the attendant left, Venom dialled from her satellite phone. 'I need clearance' she bluntly said and cut the phone. She looked out of the window, a few minutes more and she would be home.

Raina couldn't sleep the previous night. She had been so anxious for the meeting that her much needed sleep went for a toss. Somehow, she managed to find an auto from college hostel. She was running late and the Delhi traffic didn't seem to slow down. At last, she reached 35-Sardar Patel Marg. It was like any other government building; old and boring. However, the fact that this building was safeguarding the country's top secrets made it interesting and alluring. Raina had texted Meera the moment she reached the headquarters.

'You're late, Raina' she said unpleasantly.
'I'm sorry, there was so much traffic and I messed up with the entrances. This place is huge!' confessed Raina. Meera could make out the excitement and awe in Raina's voice. It reminded her of the day when she first came to the headquarters for her job interview.
'Sir has been patiently waiting for you. He is looking forward to it and don't let me down, Raina'
'I won't' promised Raina.
She was a confident young woman, she had nothing to loose but she wanted this job. They entered the conference room, relatively a smaller room. Seven chairs were arranged. 'Who all are joining us?' asked Raina.
'Chief Operations Officer and Director General'
Suddenly, two aged officers, dressed in formal attire with protruding bellies entered the conference room. 'Good morning' they all wished each other.
'Meera, you may present your files' ordered the Director General.
'Yes, Sir' she obeyed.
Meera switched the projector on and inserted her pen-drive. The projector displayed the first slide.
'Project Venom. It is a combine research of many IB officers from India and abroad' Meera began in extempore. The projector shifted slides as Meera swiped her hand on the screen, she continued
'In the last two years, the interpol and Indian IB department has been involved in the investigations of murders committed by an assassin, infamously known as Venom. Most of the people murdered were affiliated directly or indirectly to influential arms dealers, drug mafia or buyers of weaponized machinery. Venom has a signature way of killing the victims, she induces them with poison of different kinds. Sometimes, the poisons are even undetectable. Even the forensics can't determine the cause of death. However, Venom is highly overconfident, always performs a trick; leaves a syringe in sterile solution and a card'. Meera showed them the pictorial of Venom's master trickery. Her card; a dagger with a slithering snake.
'So far no traces of Venom have been found not even DNA or finger print. An assassin of different kind, Venom is like vapour in the atmosphere, her presence is hardly felt. As of now we can only speculate that Venom is woman'
'And how do we know this?' asked the Operations officer
'Sir, we don't. The handwriting on the signature card appears to be of a woman'
'The handwriting?' Operations officer asked in disbelief.
'Sir, as told, she leaves no trace. Though, the latest information was that Venom was in Russia. Dr Dmitri Ivan was killed by the similar means that of Venom. However, this time there was only a syringe, no card'
'And how is Venom related to the Indian Intelligence?' asked Director General, Mr Airan.
'Sir, our agents have been involved in the research and finding of Venom ever since we connected all her victims to one of India's biggest mafia'
'And who should that be?'
'Naseer Da-ul' Meera said firmly. Suddenly, the expressions of the two officers changed dramatically. Raina sat behind the two of them with clueless expression.
'Are you sure, Meera? Its a strong accusation'
'One hundred per cent, Sir. I have been trying to build a case over the last ten months'
'Thats alright but Da-ul? He is not someone that the IB  is going to mess up with'
'I know, Sir. That's why I want to catch Venom. And I have the person who can help me do so'
Meera suddenly looked at Raina, every soul in the room was now looking into Raina's eyes.
'You're the Bio-chemist?' asked the officer.
'She is a child, Meera' said Mr Airan in doubt. That hurt Raina's ego and she stood from her chair.
'No, Sir. I am not a child, I am very much an adult and perfect for this candatorial' she took out the piece of paper that Meera had given her before the conferance.
'These were the two compounds given to me by Meera just before the meeting'
She had written a name on it
'You found it?' Meera asked instinctly.
'Yes, Its Tabun. This chemical works on the nerves and causes paralysis'
'What about the second one?'
'I need to formulate it'
'But the point is I am good with all these things, the chemicals and poisons, I can find traces and existence of them. And I am pretty good at it. You can see my grades, I am a scholar student-'
Raina was cut in between when suddenly the Director spoke, Meera motioned her to go out of the room and wait, but Raina wanted to show her talent to them, she needed to impress them.
'Look, Meera if this has anything to do with your personal enemity with Da-ul, I suggest you don't take this case. We all remember how the last one went'
'No, Sir. This has nothing to with my personal issues. I am here for work, and I think I deserve a chance. I see great potential in catching Venom and if we do, we will be able to know...' she spoke and felt silent. Suddenly, the Operations officer spoke in Meera's defence.
'Sir, Meera is an asset to our system. When I sanctioned this research, she had only one resolve; to find this assassin. I am sure we can entrust her with this case' he said.
Mr Airan thought for few moments, he paced around and viewed the slides. Meera was anxious, her efforts of almost a year shouldn't go waste.
'Fine. Bring that kid in too. But Meera if anything the IB finds going off track, you will be held responsible.'
The smile on Meera's face was evident, she thanked the two officers and went outside to give Raina the news.
'Perfect! When do we start?'
'Tomorrow'
