Met By Chance Part 3

The wedding was a complete blast; Myra’s cousins from all over the world had come. She had invited her friends but none of them could make it. Most of her cousins were married and some had families. Myra was now the only one to get hitched.
‘Bhai sahab ladka nahi dhoond rahe aap Myra ke liye?’(Are you not trying to find a match for Myra?) asked one of Myra’s Uncle
‘Hum toh kab se keh rahe ki karle shadi, ladki sunne ko taiyar he nahi’  (We are, but she is not ready for marriage) cried Myra’s father
‘Ladka chahiye hai toh batana, jaan pehchaan mein hai hamare’ (If you require a match for her, then I know a very nice boy)
‘Ay lo ji, kitni badiya baat kardi apne’( that is so nice of you)
‘Wapas meri shadi ki dukaan lagakar baith gaye aap log, koi aur kaam nahi hai aap bade logo ko?’ (Again you have started with my marriage. Don’t you oldies have anything else to discuss?) interrupted Myra.
‘Beta tere nikambe bhai ko ladki mil gayi, tujhay ladka kab milega?’ (Even your useless brother has even found someone, when will you find yours?) joked her father
‘Dad I will find someone, don’t you worry’ Myra said.

Well, this wasn’t the end for Myra. During the entire wedding she was constantly asked to see boys for herself. Her cousins too pressurised her, she met almost eleven boys out of which only one she liked and wished to see again.

‘Have you forgotten Shashrek?’ asked Tara, Myra’s closest cousin.
‘How do you happen to ask about him?’ asked Myra
‘I checked your phone; drafts are full of someone called Shashrek’
‘As if you don’t remember him’
‘Off course I do, meri behan ka pehla pyaar, kaise bhool sakti hoon’ (my sister’s first love)
‘Kyu nahi? Khud toh apne pyaar se shadi karke bhaag gayi, mujhay chod diya’ ( Why not? You got married to your love and left me behind to grow old) Myra joked.
‘But yeh toh bata ki Shashrek aaya kahaan se?’ ( Tell me how did this Shashrek enter your life again?)
‘(yahaan se!) We met at the school Alumni Meet’
‘What? Tell me all about it!’

Myra narrated the whole scene, from that day at the mall till the Alumni Meet. Tara heard each and every word of it, for her Myra’s love life had always been a thing of great interest. She asked her  why she hadn’t contacted him. Myra answered that she didn’t want to be portrayed as the more interested person.
‘But you are interested?’ Tara asked
‘So? What if he isn’t? replied Myra
‘Myra c’mon, then why would he give you his number?’
‘That is what I fail to understand. He hasn’t called and I am not calling so end of topic’
‘Okay’ Tara said (disappointed)
‘Hey, how is that guy Neil?’ Tara asked
‘Neil? Oh! He is cute, we spoke and he gave me his number too. He said he will call.’
‘How did you meet?’
‘Driti’s mom introduced me to him. She said that he was Driti’s very close friend’s brother’
‘Ab auntyji aapki setting karva rahi hai? Kya baat hai!’(Now Aunties are setting you up) Tara said sarcastically
‘Nothing of that sort, but yeah he was the only one to my liking out of those eleven boys’
‘Let us hope that this one calls’ Tara said.

And Myra wasn’t disappointed, as soon as the wedding got over, she received a call from Neil. He said that he would love to have lunch with her anytime in the following week. Myra obviously couldn’t refuse (she did like the chap). She thought of leaving Shashrek behind. ‘It’s now or never Myra Arora’ she thought. And so she did.

At the restaurant, Neil and Myra talked a lot. Neil seemed to be a nice guy. Myra was constantly being disturbed by Tara’s on and off messages. ‘Next time I am not telling her a thing’ she promised herself.
In the meantime, Neil’s phone rang. Some cousin of his was around and wanted to meet Neil.
‘I am sorry but I am hardly in Delhi and I haven’t met him for a long time’
‘It’s alright, I can totally understand and I will be delighted to meet him’
‘Oh you are going to enjoy his company a lot. He is really brilliant’
‘Hey Neil!’ said someone from the behind. Myra didn’t turn, she somehow recognized the voice. It was way too familiar, as if heard recently.
‘Myra, I would like you to meet…’ said Neil
‘Myra! What a coincidence!’ said Shashrek
‘Oh shitt’ Myra thought.
